January 20, 2021

A medium heat taco sauce better than those store bought ones! Easy to make too!

Imagine the perfect blend of smokiness, heat, and a hint of sweetness all dancing on your taste buds.

First of all, the smokiness of this chipotle hot sauce is to die for. You can practically taste the charred, roasted peppers in every drop. It’s like a campfire in your mouth, but with a delightful kick of spice. And speaking of spice, it’s not overwhelmingly hot, but it’s got just enough heat to make you take notice. It’s the kind of heat that creeps up on you, leaving you wanting more.

Now, here’s the kicker – that subtle touch of sweetness. It’s like a secret ingredient that takes this hot sauce to a whole new level. It balances out the smokiness and heat perfectly, creating a harmonious flavor profile that’s both bold and nuanced.

This chipotle hot sauce is incredibly versatile too. You can use it to spice up your tacos, burritos, or grilled meats. It’s amazing as a marinade, a dipping sauce, or even drizzled over some roasted vegetables. Heck, I’ve even heard of people adding a dash to their morning eggs for an extra kickstart to the day.

The best part is that it doesn’t overpower the other flavors; it enhances them. So, you can still taste all the deliciousness of your food while getting that smoky, spicy, and slightly sweet goodness from the sauce.

Honestly, if you’re a fan of chipotle and a bit of heat, you’ve got to give this hot sauce a try. It’s like a flavor adventure waiting to happen in your mouth. Just be warned, you might find yourself putting it on everything – it’s that addictive!

  • 1/2 tsp white sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne* see notes

  • Add remaining ingredients and bring to a slight simmer. Cover and let cook stirring occasionally.
  • Remove to desired container and let cool.

Notes

*This is a medium spice level taco sauce.  If you prefer less heat feel free to cut back on the cayenne.  I would leave the chipotles in if you’re looking specifically for that flavor but those can be cut back or omitted as well
I like to blend this sauce after its done cooking for an extra smooth consistency and store in a plastic squirt bottle.
